Our pepper, originally from Kerala, has been in the family for over 3 decades. On the land, it grows symbiotically climbing the coconut and mango trees. Peppercorns grow from infloresence to corn through the monsoon, staying a dark jungle green. Come winter, greens turn to cherry red. Red-vented bulbul fancy the cherries, perching on vines to feast on them. The bulbuls are our indicator the cherries are ready for harvest.

Black pepper is rich in antioxidants, iron, vitamin K, manganese, to name a few. Piperine, pepper's chemical consitution, enhances nutrient bioavailability. That is, it better allows your body to abrosb the nutrition from what you have eaten.
